How the calculator works

Rules last reviewed 15 October 2026. Salary After All is an estimate for planning, not a substitute for a payslip, tax return or professional advice.

United Kingdom

The automatic UK engine models a standard employee in England, Wales or Northern Ireland using the 2026/27 Personal Allowance and income-tax bands plus employee Class 1 National Insurance. It assumes steady monthly salary. It does not currently model Scotland, student loans, salary-sacrifice pensions, benefits, marriage allowance or other individual reliefs.

Australia

The Australia engine estimates annual after-tax income for a full-year Australian resident. It includes 2026–27 resident rates, the legislated A$1,000 standard work-expense deduction, LITO and the standard Medicare levy using the current low-income thresholds. It excludes HELP/STSL, Medicare Levy Surcharge, family adjustments and other personal deductions. Because it estimates annual tax liability, the monthly figure is an average and may differ from payroll withholding during the year.

Germany

The Germany engine uses the official BMF 2026 payroll algorithm through the MIT-licensed lohnsteuerrechner 1.0.7 implementation. The standard profile is Tax Class I, no church tax, statutory insurance, childless age 23+, outside Saxony, with the official 2.9% average GKV additional contribution. Social-insurance ceilings and employee rates use 2026 values. Mini-/midijobs at or below €2,000 per month use manual mode.

Spain

The Spain engine follows the AEAT 2026 withholding algorithm applicable from 10 September 2026 for a standard permanent employee: under 65, family situation 3, no dependants/disability and no special territorial relief. It also includes 2026 employee Social Security contributions. It estimates payroll withholding, not final annual IRPF; autonomous-community rules and personal deductions can change the final return. Salaries at or below €2,000 per month use manual mode.

India

The India engine is a salary-only income-tax estimate under the default new regime using rules effective from AY 2026–27 onward. It includes the ₹75,000 standard deduction, section 87A rebate and marginal relief, surcharge marginal relief and 4% health and education cess. It does not include EPF, state professional tax, employer-specific deductions or special-rate investment income.

Other countries

No tax rule is guessed. You enter a combined deduction percentage yourself. The calculator then uses that rate for the salary-to-net estimate and continues with the same expenses, savings and investment planning workflow.

What “net” means here

“Estimated net” means gross salary minus the taxes and mandatory deductions explicitly modelled for the selected profile. It is not guaranteed to match a payslip. Bonuses, benefits, deductions, pensions, insurance choices, filing status, regional rules and other personal circumstances can change the actual result.
